Align renewal date of multiple orders
« on: 12/February/2012, 12:40:33 AM »
Hi,

I have a customer with multiple orders and these orders expire on different dates/months. Some of them could be quite close to each other, and it would be useful to be able to change the "expiry date" so that the invoices are generated and sent out together rather.

Perhaps it could be a field that could be set, so customers could also choose to align their orders to a preferred date?

Regards,
sykong

I think it is the 'next due date' rather than the 'expiry date' that would need to be aligned. An administrator can of course amend the next due date on any orders if they want all items to be invoiced on a particular date, but it would be difficult to allow the client to do this themselves as it would be open to abuse.

Suppose I shift the next due date earlier by 1 month, the "expiry date" indicated on the invoice would also be shifted earlier by 1 month?

Invoices don't have an expiry date (but orders do). If you manually change the next due date on an order, it will not automatically change any other dates.

Supposing there are 2 orders, and payment frequency is annual

Order 1 runs from 1 Jan to 31 Dec
Order 2 runs from 1 Feb to 31 Jan

What I am suggesting is to be able to invoice for both on 1 Jan (or earlier) but still leave in the description of the invoice that Order 1 is 1 Jan to 31 Dec and Order 2 is 1 Feb to 31 Jan.

How would nBill know which future orders you want to show on the invoice early?

My suggestion is to have an additional field (next invoice date?) which defaults to the next due date. The next invoice date can then be set to the same date for multiple orders so that the renewals will be on the same invoice. I suppose there could be many different ways to implement this.
