how to set up a time limited special offer?
« on: 15/June/2011, 11:10:41 AM »
Hello,

I would like to know how I can set up time limited special offers in nbill?

For example, if the nic registrary of any domain offers a time limited special price for the first year, I would like to grant that discount to my clients, too.

Example: nic.at had a special price offer for all at domains that were registered in may 2011. That special price was only valid for the first year (on renewal it counts the normal price) and only if you bought that domain in may.

How should I set up such a discount in nbill??

To set up the starting and end time is no problem. But then the problem is, that this discount should be available for recurring payments (domain fees are recurring and paid annually) but not be available on renewal, and only if the order was made in may 2011.

I did not succeed in setting up such a discount. Either it was not available for anybody or it was available for all.  :-[

This kind of discount is needed several times per year on several products (domains or hosting plans).

If the end date of a discount has passed, the discount has expired and will not be applied to anything. I think the only way of doing what you want would be to manually set 'available for new orders' to 'no' on the last day of the month.

but how can I make sure, that the discount will only be applied to NEW orders within that special offer period?

I MUST enable recurring orders, otherwise no domain fee will be affected by that discount (because domain fees are recurring orders). But if recurring payments are enabled, every recurring invoice, that is generated between start and end date, will get that discount, even if it is the second, third, etc. year, don't they?

These discounts should only be available for new orders, in other words: for the first year.

If you only want the discount to be applied on the first payment, you should set recurring to 'no'. Recurring just refers to repeat payments, not the first payment.

hm, that was my first setting, exactly as you mentioned, but it did not work: The discount was not applied. I thought that was because it was an order with recurring payments.  ???
Maybe I have to try once more.
